Plant Care
Light Requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. It can tolerate medium to low light, but growth will be slower. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water Requirements: Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feels dry. Water thoroughly until it drains from the bottom, then empty the saucer. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings and avoid keeping it constantly soggy.
Fertilizer: Feed during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer about once a month. Follow the fertilizer's dilution instructions. Reduce or stop fertilizing during fall and winter.
Soil: Use a well-draining, slightly moisture-retentive potting mix. A quality houseplant mix combined with perlite works well. Avoid heavy soil that holds excess water.
Temperature: Prefers 65-80 degrees. Keep away from cold drafts, air conditioners, heating vents, and temperatures below about 50 degrees.
Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity and generally adapts well to average household conditions. Higher humidity can help keep the leaves healthy and reduce brown leaf tips.
Pet Safety: Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. It may cause vomiting, drooling, weakness, and other symptoms.
Growth Habit: Upright and slow-growing, with thick cane-like stems and long, broad, dark green leaves. It makes an attractive vertical accent plant and can grow several feet tall indoors.
