Plant Care
Light Requirements: Bright light is essential. Provide several hours of direct morning or filtered sunlight each day. Protect from intense afternoon sun if the leaves begin to scorch.
Water Requirements: Keep the soil lightly and consistently moist, but never waterlogged. Check the soil frequently and water thoroughly when the surface begins to dry. Avoid allowing the bonsai to dry out completely for extended periods.
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced bonsai or houseplant fertilizer every 2–4 weeks during spring and summer. Reduce feeding during fall and winter.
Soil: Use a well-draining bonsai soil mix that retains some moisture while allowing excess water to drain freely.
Temperature: Prefers moderate temperatures around 60–80°F. Protect from cold drafts, sudden temperature changes, and temperatures below about 50°F.
Pet Safety: Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets.
Humidity: Appreciates moderate to higher humidity, especially in dry indoor environments. A humidifier or humidity tray can help maintain consistent moisture in the air.
Growth Habit: A compact, woody flowering shrub commonly trained as bonsai. It produces small leaves, delicate branches, and small white flowers, often blooming during warm growing conditions.
