Plant Care
Light Requirements: Provide bright, filtered or indirect light indoors. Several hours of filtered sunlight each day is ideal. Avoid sudden exposure to intense direct sunlight.
Water Requirements: Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly and allow excess water to drain completely. Avoid overwatering and poor drainage.
Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced palm or houseplant fertilizer during spring and summer according to product directions. Reduce feeding during fall and winter.
Soil: Use a sandy, well-draining potting mix. Excellent drainage is important because Sago Palms do not tolerate consistently waterlogged soil.
Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures around 65–80°F indoors. Protect from frost and prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures.
Pet Safety: Highly Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. All parts of the Sago Palm are toxic, with the seeds being especially dangerous.
Humidity: Average household humidity is generally suitable. Good airflow around the foliage is beneficial.
Growth Habit: A very slow-growing, palm-like cycad with stiff, glossy green leaves arranged in a dramatic rosette atop a short trunk.
