Plant Care
Light Requirements: Full sun, ideally 6-8+ hours of direct sunlight daily. Can tolerate some light afternoon shade in very hot climates.
Water Requirements: Water thoroughly when the top layer of soil begins to dry. Soak until water runs from the drainage holes. Don't let it sit in standing water, and don't keep the soil constantly soggy.
Fertilizer: Feed during the growing season with a balanced bonsai fertilizer. About every 2-4 weeks during active growth is generally appropriate. Reduce/stop feeding during winter dormancy.
Soil: Needs very well-draining bonsai soil. A mix containing akadama, pumice, lava rock, or similar inorganic components works well. Avoid regular potting soil that stays wet.
Temperature: Cold-hardy and needs a winter dormancy. It can tolerate freezing temperatures, but a potted bonsai's roots are more vulnerable to extreme cold than a tree planted in the ground. Protect the pot/root system during severe freezes.
Pet Safety: Toxic
