Plant Care
Light Requirements: Provide bright light with several hours of direct sunlight each day. A sunny south- or west-facing window is ideal. If moving the plant into stronger sunlight, acclimate it gradually to prevent leaf scorch.
Water Requirements: Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Water thoroughly when the soil is dry, then allow excess water to drain completely. Avoid letting water collect in the center of the plant or leaving the roots in standing water.
Fertilizer: Feed with a diluted cactus or succulent fertilizer once every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer. Little to no fertilizer is needed during fall and winter.
Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent soil mix. Adding perlite or pumice can improve drainage and help prevent root rot.
Temperature: Prefers temperatures around 60–85°F. Protect from frost, freezing temperatures, and cold drafts.
Pet Safety: Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Keep out of reach of pets.
Humidity: Average household humidity is ideal. Aloe vera does not require high humidity and prefers good airflow around the plant.
Growth Habit: A compact succulent that grows in a rosette of thick, fleshy, pointed leaves. Mature plants can produce offsets, or “pups,” around the base and may develop tall flower stalks under the right conditions.
