Plant Care
Light Requirements: Provide bright light with several hours of direct sunlight each day. A sunny south- or west-facing window is ideal indoors. Gradually introduce plants to stronger sunlight to prevent sunburn.
Water Requirements: Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Water thoroughly when the soil is dry, then allow excess water to drain away. Water less frequently during fall and winter.
Fertilizer: Feed with a diluted cactus or succulent fertilizer once a month during spring and summer. Avoid fertilizing during the winter when growth slows.
Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent soil mix. Adding perlite, pumice, or coarse grit can improve drainage and help prevent root rot.
Temperature: Most cacti prefer temperatures around 60–85°F. Protect from frost, freezing temperatures, and prolonged exposure to cold drafts.
Pet Safety: Pet safety varies by cactus variety. Most cacti are not considered highly toxic, but their spines can cause injury if touched or chewed. Keep away from pets and children.
Humidity: Average household humidity is suitable. Avoid consistently humid conditions and provide good airflow to keep the plant healthy.
Growth Habit: Cactus collections may include upright, round, columnar, clumping, or trailing forms. Their compact size makes them ideal for sunny windowsills, desks, shelves, and small plant displays.
