Plant Care
Light Requirements: Provide bright light with several hours of direct sunlight each day. A sunny south- or west-facing window is ideal indoors. Introduce the cactus to stronger sunlight gradually to prevent sunburn.
Water Requirements: Allow the soil to dry completely before watering. Water thoroughly, then allow excess water to drain completely. Avoid getting the strawflower or decorative material excessively wet.
Fertilizer: Feed with a diluted cactus or succulent fertilizer once a month during spring and summer. Little to no fertilizer is needed during fall and winter.
Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus or succulent soil mix. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot.
Temperature: Prefers temperatures around 60–85°F. Protect from frost, freezing temperatures, and cold drafts.
Pet Safety: Pet safety varies by cactus variety. Cacti may not be highly toxic, but their spines can cause injury if touched or chewed. Keep away from pets and children.
Humidity: Average household humidity is suitable. Avoid excessive humidity and provide good airflow around the plant.
Growth Habit: Growth habit varies by cactus variety and may be round, upright, columnar, or clumping. The strawflower provides a colorful decorative accent while the cactus continues to grow naturally.
Important: The strawflower is dried and decorative and does not grow from the cactus. Avoid soaking it when watering, as excess moisture can cause the flower to deteriorate.
