Plant Care
Light Requirements: Bright, indirect light is ideal. It can tolerate medium to low light, although growth will be slower. Avoid harsh direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water Requirements: Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil feels dry. Water thoroughly until it drains from the bottom, then empty the saucer. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings and avoid letting the plant sit in soggy soil.
Fertilizer: Feed during spring and summer with a balanced houseplant fertilizer about once a month. Follow the fertilizer's dilution instructions. Reduce or stop fertilizing during fall and winter.
Soil: Use a well-draining, slightly moisture-retentive soil mix. A quality houseplant potting mix combined with perlite works well. Avoid heavy soil that holds excess moisture.
Temperature: Prefers 65-80 degrees. Keep away from cold drafts, air conditioners, heating vents, and temperatures below about 50 degrees.
Humidity: Prefers moderate humidity and generally adapts well to average household conditions. Higher humidity can help prevent brown leaf tips and keep the foliage looking healthy.
Pet Safety: Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. It can cause vomiting, drooling, weakness, and other symptoms.
Growth Habit: Upright and slow-growing, with sturdy cane-like stems and long, green leaves. It makes an attractive vertical accent plant and can grow several feet tall indoors.
